Surgical services you can count on from the dentist you know and trust

Silsby Family Dental understands that it can be hard to find a trusted provider. And once you find that provider, you don’t want to go anywhere else! Since Dr. Evan Silsby and our team in Albion, New York, have so many capabilities on-site, we rarely have to refer you to anyone else. These capabilities include complex surgical dentistry services.

What makes these surgical services different from other offerings at your office?

Surgery largely refers to treating diseases and injuries by removing or repairing the affected tissues through special techniques. These techniques involve making openings in the tissue to access the damaged areas. Due to the nature of these procedures, your treatment is generally accompanied by an anesthetic (and sedation as needed). These “helpers” support the most comfortable, safe, and pleasant experience at our office.

What are some common surgeries that you perform?

Our team has the in-house expertise to surgically place dental implants. You do not have to be referred to a specialist or another dentist’s office for this service. As needed, we may recommend bone grafting to build up tissue at the implant site before these small, artificial tooth roots are placed. While a “last resort” procedure, surgical extractions may be performed in cases where the tooth is “too far gone” and may damage neighboring teeth and other parts of the mouth and body.

When is a tooth not salvageable?

Not all teeth are good candidates for root canal therapy or other endodontic procedures to treat damage to the innermost tooth structure. Likewise, not all teeth heal properly following root canal therapy. In these and other cases, extraction may be advised. Surgical extractions, too, are largely indicated for teeth that may be hard to access, including impacted wisdom teeth.

How do you treat wisdom teeth?

We monitor these backmost molars closely. If they are not developing properly, we generally recommend their removal before pain and other issues arise. Complications of wisdom teeth include impaction, which refers to how these molars can become “trapped” in the jawbone. For more complicated wisdom teeth extractions, this is one of the rare cases where we may need to refer you to one of our excellent local oral surgeons. They can pick up where we left off. So, it’s a seamless and safe experience from start to finish.

Will dental implant placement take a long time and hurt?

Many of our patients at Silsby Family Dental are surprised by how quick and straightforward the process of surgically inserting implants can be. We perform these procedures in our office, and they can be completed in a single visit. Like dental fillings or other restorations, we simply numb the area where the dental implant will be placed using a local anesthetic. Once you are fully numb, Dr. Silsby precisely positions the implant at the site where it will later be attached to a replacement tooth (or crown). More implants may also be inserted to replace several teeth or all of the teeth in a dental arch. These options are referred to as “implant-supported bridges and dentures.”
