Brushing and flossing every day is the foundation of your oral health. After that, getting a routine dental cleaning and exam is one of the most important things you can do for your health. With Dr. Evan Silsby and the team at Silsby Family Dental, it’s about prevention and early detection. Stopping problems before they even have a chance to start, and catching potential issues early on.
Brushing and flossing at home are huge for your oral health, but they can’t do everything. Your toothbrush can’t reach every single spot. Dental hygienists use special tools to remove hardened plaque and tartar that lurk in the crevices between your teeth, or at the back of your teeth, spots you can’t see or reach.
Major dental issues like early gum disease often don’t have symptoms you can feel or see. Dr. Silsby is trained to spot these silent problems during routine dental exams. And X-rays allow him to look beneath your gumline to see what’s happening there. It means you can get less invasive treatment before a small issue has the chance to become more complicated.
Dr. Silsby uses advanced tools like digital X-rays to get a detailed view of your teeth, jaw, and bone structure. With these diagnostics, he can fully evaluate your bite alignment and check for the earliest signs of oral cancer.
Routine exams are the best way to avoid major dental work. When Dr. Silsby catches problems early, the treatment is much simpler. Plus, it saves you money. For example, deep cleaning for early gum disease should be done instead of surgery. Or, preventive treatments instead of replacing a tooth with a dental implant.
Dr. Silsby also uses these appointments to create a preventive care plan to address your individual oral health. Some preventive treatments include:
Your oral health is directly connected to your body’s health. Did you know that problems like chronic gum inflammation can contribute to other systemic health problems? Heart disease. Complications with type 2 diabetes. Stoke. When your mouth is unwell, it affects the rest of your body. That’s why a routine dental cleaning is a key part of your total health routine. It’s not just about your smile.
