Restorative dentistry services rescue broken, decayed, and vulnerable teeth
Preventative dentistry is fundamental to our approach to family dental care. However, restorative dentistry also plays an essential role in how we care for families from across the Albion, New York, area. Silsby Family Dental understands that not all teeth, gums, and mouth trauma can be prevented. There are many circumstances that lead to your need to repair damage to the teeth and other parts of the mouth. And, regardless of your specific situation, know that you can count on us for trusted, complete care to restore your mouth to health and function and your smile to its beautiful brilliance.
How have you helped patients with restorative dentistry?
Every day, we may place a filling to repair a tooth that is weakened by a cavity, which is a form of decay. Or, we may preserve a badly damaged tooth with dental crowns, sometimes preceded by root canal therapy. For those teeth that cannot be preserved, we are happy to discuss tooth replacement that looks, feels, and functions like real, healthy teeth. These options include dental bridges, dentures, and implants.
What do you use for fillings?
Our fillings are largely made from a metal-free dental composite. This mixture of glass and resin may be perfectly color-matched to the surrounding tooth. It is also bonded directly to the teeth, which preserves the utmost natural tissue, ensures the filling is secure, and supports the optimal and sustained strength of the treated tooth.
How do you make crowns?
Our dental crowns have rescued broken, brittle, badly decayed, and root canal-treated teeth. We use special software and onsite technologies (CEREC) to make your crowns in just one visit. Since we do not have to rely on outside labs, there is no waiting for your beautiful and durable crown.
Why would I need a root canal before a crown?
Root canal treatment is generally indicated for teeth with deep inflammation or infection to the innermost tooth structure, the “pulp,” where the nerves, connective tissues, and blood vessels are housed. Root canal therapy may be used to access and remove the pulp to relieve pain and restore the tooth to health (thereby avoiding its extraction). The surrounding root canals are sterilized and sealed to protect the vulnerable, treated tooth. The placement of a crown ensures the tooth is durable enough to last for many years, even a lifetime, without further treatment.
What is the difference between implants and “regular” dentures or bridges?
Conventional bridges and dentures are either held in place by other teeth or by products such as denture adhesive and natural suction in the mouth. This design may not be appropriate for everyone and is associated with special considerations for long-term care. Implants represent just one part of the replacement tooth. They are secured in the jawbone to function like tooth roots. These teeth are stable since they rely on the implant embedded in the jawbone. Many patients appreciate that implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures support lasting comfort, efficient chewing function, and clear speech. They also keep the supportive bone in the jaw strong. However, Silsby Family Dental appreciates that every patient is different. Our team in Albion, NY, wants to hear from you!
