Boosting your smile’s natural vibrancy with veneer options that you can trust

Dental veneers are often the “secret” behind some of the most admired, famous, and flawless smiles. While the cat’s out of the bag, it’s important to know that the outcomes from this procedure are dependent on the talents of the dental professionals tasked with designing and securing the shells of composite resin or ceramics (such as porcelain). Fortunately, generations of families from across the Albion, New York area are in exceptional hands by partnering with Silsby Family Dental and our skilled “dental artist,” Dr. Evan Silsby. And we truly like to think of veneers as “miniature works of art.” They really are that lovely!

What are veneers?

Veneers are dental materials that are prepared, color-matched, shaped, and secured to disguise cosmetic imperfections on the front surfaces of the teeth that are visible in the smile.

Can all of my “imperfections” be treated with veneers?

Many cosmetic flaws with the teeth can be effectively and naturally treated with these thin shells of dental porcelain. “Treatable concerns” include stains/discoloration that doesn’t respond well to whitening treatments; overly worn teeth that are no longer uniformly “sized” in the smile; excess or uneven spaces between the teeth; craze lines or other surface imperfections; and irregularly-contoured teeth. We can even shape the material to address other spacing issues that do not require orthodontic treatment, such as slightly crooked teeth.

How are veneers applied to the teeth?

Also known as “indirect veneers,” porcelain veneers involve first preparing the ceramic itself. So, it looks like natural enamel and fits properly on top of the tooth. Each veneer is largely made by one of our skilled lab technicians to meet your one-of-a-kind requirements and blend in seamlessly with your smile. Minimal enamel is lifted from the surface of each tooth to make room for the veneer. Modern, ultra-thin veneers help minimize the amount of enamel that is removed, which preserves natural and healthy tissues and helps minimize sensitivity for the most comfortable process. Once the teeth have been “prepared,” we collect as much information as possible about them and send it to our skilled lab technicians, who will fabricate each veneer flawlessly. After the permanent veneers are done, Dr. Silsby bonds them to the teeth during a second appointment.

Why porcelain and not some other material?

While not as “tooth-preserving” as its direct veneer counterpart (made from composite resin), indirect or porcelain veneers are universally popular due to their noted stain resistance and inherent properties, which mimic natural enamel. We can also perfectly blend and balance the different shades of teeth, arriving at the right hue for your smile. With consistently good oral care at home and in our office, these porcelain coverings can last for many years as they are also highly durable and strong. So, Silsby Family Dental likes to think of this procedure as a smart investment in your smile and well-being.
